POSITION SUMMARY
The person in this position will be responsible for facilitating communications with the college for troubleshooting and training purposes as well as the administration and maintenance of the Banner Finance system. This position will indirectly be responsible for partnering with the Controller for implementing Banner modules which impact Finance (e.g., capital asset/inventory management, grants management, non-student receivables, leave system, etc) to ensure the integrity of the entire database. Maintaining the integrity of the Finance module of the Banner system and updating all relevant Banner tables requires an in depth knowledge of other Banner (or non-Banner) modules that impact the Finance module.

Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills

Assists Controller in supervision of accounting and other financial operations for the Fiscal Affairs office.

Assists Vice President Administrative Services by providing data and creating end user reports to related to Budget reporting as well as assist in the preparation of various compliance and external reporting to include the Budget Data Book and IPeds reporting as examples.

Assists in financial operations for the Fiscal Affairs Offices. This includes monitoring various general ledger balances and distributions, as well as ensuring compliance with fiscal policies and regulations. Coordinates with the Controller prior to month-end and year-end closes to evaluate preparedness before closing periods in Banner. Reviews various COFRS reports as deemed necessary such as abnormal balances, coding of revenues, etc. Communicates and coordinates with departments and other fiscal affairs staff to resolve related differences and issues.

Coordinates month-end as well as year-end close (footnotes, f/s, related charts and graphs) for review by the Controller. Acts as liaison with IT and obtains data required for response to both internal and external requests for information.

Partners with the Controller on technical system and accounting components on the implementation and use of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) for the College to ensure consistency and standardization of financial reporting practices, as well as coordination of report needs, priorities, and determination of various report specifications. Management of system upgrades and system modifications and changes, recommending changes in accounting processes and procedures for the College to adopt in conjunction with the development and maintenance of the Banner system. Coordinate migrations and end user testing, recommending final sign off on system changes to the Controller prior to migration into production.

Also works together for the development and training of monitoring tools over financial data and processing, including, but not limited to student A/R, purchasing, and financial activity, analyzing key periodic results in the aggregate as well as at the individual college level.

Ensures integrity of financial information on state's accounting system for the College operations. Assists the Controller in all activities related to the mechanized accounting systems of the State (COFRS) and higher education (Banner), maintaining the integrity College Financial Data. Assists in managing and training staff and the College community and act as the central resource for the operation, processing and data input requirements to minimize errors and achieve customer service.
Maintains a working, conversant knowledge of GAAP, GASB, NACUBO, IRS, State Fiscal Rules, Board Policies, Personnel/Payroll Policies, DPA and COFRS Alerts, and State/Federal reporting requirements.
Minimum qualifications & Requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field. Professional level experience in Accounting, with one year of experience equating to one year of education.
Experience: Three to five years of progressively responsible accounting or auditing experience, and three years of supervisory experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Sound knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to analyze complex systems and make recommendations.
Licensure/Certification: N/A
Equipment and Software: Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, word and power point packages. Working knowledge of automated accounting systems and related subsystems. SGHE Banner Software experience preferred.
Other Considerations: Strong organizational abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
Requires quantitative analysis, written and oral communications, leadership, experience writing and implementing policy, management skills and available for in-state travel on a regular basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
Any equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities.
Experience:
CPA, and at least 1 year of Higher Education accounting experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of State of Colorado Fiscal Rules, Colorado Financial Reporting System, Financial Records System, Billing and Receivable Systems, and Banner Financial accounting package, and Higher Education Accounting Standards.
Supplemental information
Salary Range: Anticipated starting salary range: $80,000.00 - $85,000.00 This salary is determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information. CCA offers an excellent benefit plan, including generous leave, holiday, and education benefits. Full time employees immediately upon hire earn 15 hours a month annual leave and 10 hours a month sick leave.
